About us |
My name is Andy Davison. I've been working on furtech products for a few years now, testing and developing fabrics and designs. It all started many, many years ago. I remember walking in the Lake District wondering why I was getting wet in my new waterproof breathable kit. I studied engineering and worked at DMM as a student. While there I remember reading about 3D weaving and wondering about making thinner, single structure pile/pertex type garments. As an engineer I studied thermodynamics in great detail, providing some insight into condensation and evaporation. That must have been 1991. Then I came across Paramo and realised that here was something akin to thin, waterproof pile/pertex. Once graduated I worked for Paramo as a sales agent and then as manager. Throughout the interveneing years, expeditions throughout the world and mountain rescue experiences, my understanding of garment physics and design has evolved and deepened. furtech is the result. We hope you appreciate the detailed design of our garments, which allows faff free function across an incredibly wide spectrum of conditions and activities. This is especially true when using our jackets and trousers. Thin, highly breathable and ventable insulation covering the whole body is far better than thick insulation on the torso and a little insulation on the legs. After all, the legs have a far bigger surface area than the body. Because our vents open directly to the base layer or skin they work far more effectively than in a conventional layering system. We have also selected many other products that work well with our garments, in order to recommend what amounts to a mountain survival system. In essence this is a layering system where you select baselayers to broadly regulate your temperature (thin for summer, thicker for winter). furtech adds weather protection and temperature flexibility. Other insulation for stops and emergencies is then added over the top, because, when the weather's bad, the last thing you want to do is remove your shell to add insulation! |
